Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Amudi said the aid of 100 tons of dates from King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia was to meet the needs of Muslims in Indonesia ahead of the arrival of the month of Ramadan.

"This is intended to meet the needs of Muslims throughout the world, and also Muslims in Indonesia," said Ambassador Al-Amudi at the handover ceremony at the office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, here on Wednesday (2/11).

He stated that the assistance confirmed the efforts of the Saudi Arabian government to provide services for Muslims throughout the world, especially Indonesia.

This assistance also confirms the strong relationship that has existed between Indonesia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the relationship has now reached a strategic level.

Al-Amudi did not specify the type of dates given, but emphasized that the dates were a premium type of dates, which had very good quality.

"So, these dates amount to 100 tons, and they are premium dates," he said.

The ambassador hopes that the distribution of dates will meet the needs of Muslims in Indonesia, especially for communities affected by disasters in various regions in Indonesia.

Through this assistance, Saudi Arabia also hopes that Muslims in Indonesia can welcome the month of Ramadan with joy.

"Hopefully, the fasting we carry out will be accepted by Allah, and of course, this gift will be received by all Indonesian people," he said.

In the meantime, Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar said the date aid would be distributed to various regions in Indonesia, especially to a number of disaster areas.

"Yes, we (will distribute it) to disaster areas," he said.
