Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry has adjusted the allowances for participants in the national internship program in line with the 2026 minimum wage increase, showing the government’s commitment to improving participants’ welfare.

“Since the 2026 minimum wage has increased, the allowances for national internship participants have also gone up,” Manpower Minister Yassierli said during his working visit here on Friday.

He explained that the allowances are intended to support participants’ living expenses while undergoing training and work practice at companies, institutions, or organizations.

With the 2026 minimum wage increase, the amount of allowances has also been adjusted according to the standards in each region.

For example, the minimum wage in West Sumatra Province in 2025 was Rp2,994,193 or around U$177 and has increased to Rp3,182,955 or around US$189 in 2026. This adjustment raises the internship allowances for participants in the region.

He also reminded participants to use their allowances wisely and productively, whether for saving, supporting their families, or other beneficial purposes.

Yassierli stated that the national internship program is a priority initiative of President Prabowo Subianto to ensure Indonesia’s youth are truly work-ready, gain hands-on experience, and develop competencies aligned with industry needs.

“This is a major strategy to prepare superior human resources and reduce unemployment,” he emphasized.

Looking ahead, the ministry aims to further improve the program’s quality, make it more adaptive to industry needs, and serve as an effective bridge between education and the workforce.

“The government will continue to evaluate and enhance the program so that its benefits can be felt more widely by Indonesian youth, preparing them to compete and contribute to the nation,” he added.
