Jakarta (ANTARA) - Grief engulfed the funeral of Smart Air co-pilot Capt. Baskoro Adi Anggoro, who was shot dead by an armed criminal group after landing at Korowai Airstrip in Papua, as mourners gathered in East Jakarta.

Family members, relatives and colleagues broke down in tears as Anggoro was buried at Pondok Kelapa public cemetery in Duren Sawit at 3:26 p.m. local time on Friday.

Sobs grew louder when the coffin was carried from the family home to the cemetery, marking the start of the final farewell under a heavy, subdued atmosphere.

The ceremony began with a brief church service, where mourners were invited to strengthen their faith and entrust Anggoro’s passing to God.

Prayers were offered in gratitude for his life and in support of the grieving family left behind.

Hymns echoed across the cemetery as relatives embraced, struggling to hold back tears while remembering his kindness and dedication.

After the service, pallbearers slowly lowered the coffin into the grave as cries of grief intensified.

The service leader delivered a final prayer, asking that Anggoro be granted the best place by God and that his family be given strength and resilience.

Relatives then took turns scattering flowers and soil onto the grave in a final gesture of farewell.

“My beloved Baskoro Adi Anggoro, we part here and will meet again in heaven. I love you,” his mother, Triyana, said at the cemetery.

“Farewell, my dear,” his father, Isbranto, said softly.

“Goodbye, my grandson. Smile there. I cannot kiss you,” his grandmother said, her voice trembling.

Earlier, Brig. Gen. Faizal Rahmadani, operations chief of the Cartenz Peace Task Force, said pilot Egon and co-pilot Anggoro were shot by an armed criminal group after their Smart Air plane landed at Korowai Airstrip on Wednesday at about 11:00 a.m. Eastern Indonesia Time.

The aircraft, registered PK-SNR, had departed from Tanah Merah in Boven Digoel District, South Papua, and was carrying passengers when it came under fire upon arrival in Korowai.
