Prabowo made the announcement Friday at the Indonesia Economic Outlook 2026 forum in Jakarta.
He said the fiscal policies implemented yielded significant savings by cutting spending deemed non-productive.
“In the first year we saved Rp308 trillion, equivalent to $18 billion, and we can do even more,” Prabowo said.
The president said the funds were redirected to programs directly benefiting citizens, such as MBG, aimed at improving nutritional quality nationwide.
Cuts included overseas travel, ceremonial events, and forums or studies considered non-essential, he added.
“Excessive studies and analyses are no longer necessary. We know the problems—lack of infrastructure, hunger—so we act. Villages need bridges, build them. People need food, provide it,” he said.
Prabowo stressed that the government continues efforts to plug budget leakages to maximize efficiency.
He said fiscal discipline will remain a key strategy to strengthen the national economy and ensure priority programs deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
