"We believe that the countries, the independent countries and also Islamic countries, they need to have more cooperation, solidarity, and closeness to just face the new situation in the economic area," said the ambassador in a special interview with ANTARA, here on Friday (2/13).
He made the statement ahead of the D8 Summit, where Indonesia, which is hosting this year's Summit, will welcome leaders from its member countries, namely Iran, Turkiye, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, and Azerbaijan, in a summit to be held in April.
Boroujerdi said the summit presents a timely opportunity to implement economic plans that have been formulated among member countries.
By putting these plans into action, he expressed hope that intra-bloc economic cooperation would significantly increase.
The ambassador added that the D-8 Summit could play a crucial role in strengthening collaboration among member states and fostering better economic conditions and sustainable development.
He also praised Indonesia’s economic performance, noting that the country has demonstrated resilience and maintained stable growth amid global uncertainty.
According to him, this achievement reflects Indonesia’s strong cooperation with regional and international partners, including ASEAN and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
“Indonesia has shown that it is a highly cooperative country that values solidarity and partnership with other nations,” Boroujerdi said.
He expressed confidence that Indonesia’s presidency of the D-8 would help further strengthen and improve cooperation among member countries.
