Jakarta (ANTARA) - Try Sutrisno, Indonesia’s sixth vice president, passed away on Monday at the age of 90 while undergoing treatment at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta, officials said.

He passed away at around 7:00 a.m., according to a broadcast message circulated on behalf of his family and the Agency for Pancasila Ideology Education (BPIP).

The information was later confirmed by officials from the Ministry of State Secretariat and the Presidential Security Detail (Paspampres).

The statement said the former vice president’s body would be prepared for burial at RSPAD before being transported to his residence on Purwakarta Street No. 6 in Menteng, Central Jakarta.

“We ask for forgiveness for any mistakes or shortcomings he may have had during his life. May his good deeds be accepted by Allah. We humbly ask for your prayers that he may find the best place by His side. Amen,” the family message read.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi conveyed the government’s condolences and said authorities had instructed RSPAD, the Jakarta Permanent Garrison Command I and the Ministry of State Secretariat to ensure proper arrangements.

He said the funeral and burial would be conducted with full military honors in recognition of Sutrisno’s service to the nation.
Sutrisno, a retired military general, served as vice president from 1993 to 1998 during the administration of former president Suharto.

Before assuming the vice presidency, he held several key posts in the Indonesian Armed Forces, including commander of the military.
