"Our recovery target is the same as the BNPB's (National Disaster Mitigation Agency), namely three years," a representative of the ministry's National Secretariat for Disaster-Resilient Education Unit, Jamjam Muzaki, said in South Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday.
According to him, the priority this year is the recovery of educational facilities and infrastructure, supported by policy adjustments.
To facilitate emergency access to education, he added that his ministry has already set up emergency tents, allowing educational services to continue.
Muzaki noted that at least 168 tents have been distributed to support the gradual recovery of educational services after the disasters that struck the three provinces of Sumatra in late November 2025.
"We have distributed around 168 tents, and many schools are still operating out of them. We have also built emergency semi-permanent classrooms for 44 schools to serve as temporary facilities until the recovery process is complete," he remarked.
Furthermore, the ministry is working to restore access to schools, noting that a bridge in Central Aceh remains disconnected, forcing teachers to cross the river using ropes to reach their students.
He affirmed that the ministry continues to provide social support services for students and staff affected by the disasters.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education recorded that a total of 4,863 schools in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra were affected by the November floods and landslides.
They comprise 3,409 schools with minor damage, 925 with moderate damage, 437 with severe damage, and 92 schools that were relocated.
Particularly in Aceh, 3,073 schools were affected, followed by 1,168 in North Sumatra and 622 in West Sumatra.
