Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said all strategic food commodities must remain below the government’s highest retail price to maintain food stability and protect consumers’ purchasing power.
“All strategic commodities must remain below the highest retail price,” Sulaiman said in a statement confirmed Thursday.
The government has set the highest retail price for broiler chicken meat at 40,000 rupiah (US$2.55) per kilogram, beef at 140,000 rupiah per kilogram, and chicken eggs at 30,000 rupiah per kilogram.
Sulaiman emphasized that national supplies of beef, chicken and eggs remain sufficient and urged authorities to take action against parties suspected of withholding supplies and triggering price increases.

The statement followed a report from Statistics Indonesia showing price increases in several regions, including Bandung in West Java.
Sulaiman said inspections found no supply constraints linked to the Agriculture Ministry.
All recommendations related to the supply of cattle and beef had already been issued since December, he said, meaning there should be no justification for prices to surge.
“All recommendations have been issued. The need for cattle and beef has been met and stocks are safe,” he said.
He said indications of price increases were instead found at the intermediary level, where supplies were allegedly being held back before reaching the market.
Sulaiman called on the government’s Food Task Force, the police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate and other law enforcement agencies across Indonesia to conduct strict monitoring.
He urged authorities to take firm action against any stockpiling or price manipulation, including sealing facilities if violations are proven.
The minister also praised food businesses and exporters that have continued maintaining production and expanding market access despite market pressures, saying their efforts help ensure supply stability and support the government’s broader food security strategy.
