Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated 218 bridges built in various regions, including disaster-hit areas like Aceh, while praising the swift work of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) in completing the construction.

In a video conference on Monday, the head of state detailed that the inaugurations included 77 Bailey bridges, 59 Armco bridges, and 82 pioneer bridges, which were built in approximately 2.5 months.

"This afternoon, I hereby inaugurate 77 Bailey bridges, 59 Armco bridges, and 82 Pioneer bridges," Prabowo said, as quoted from a live broadcast on Monday.

According to him, the completion of those bridges demonstrates the commitment of TNI soldiers and officials in the regions to assisting communities affected by disasters and areas that need better connectivity.

The construction of these bridges is also a manifestation of the government's presence down to the village, hamlet, and remote areas, ensuring that communities are not left to face difficulties alone, he added.

Prabowo expressed surprise that hundreds of bridges could be completed in such a short time and asked the head of the task force to provide a list of all officers involved so their efforts can be recognized.

Furthermore, the president highlighted the importance of the bridges, including suspension bridges stretching tens of meters in remote areas, which help communities overcome access challenges, including for children who must cross rivers to and from school.

"Now I sleep more easily because children in remote villages no longer have to cross rivers in dangerous conditions. Our children in remote areas no longer have to sit in class in wet clothes or come home from school in wet clothes," he said.

On that occasion, Prabowo also praised TNI soldiers serving in various regions, including commanders, unit leaders, and territorial officers involved in the bridge construction.

"I am so proud to lead soldiers who love their people so much, who are passionate, brave, and willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of the nation and the people we love," he concluded.
