Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has set a mid-March deadline to complete the remaining 2,418 temporary housing units out of the 4,189 planned for disaster survivors in Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh Province.

Head of the BNPB Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Abdul Muhari said in a statement on Tuesday that the agency had begun accelerating the construction of emergency housing in collaboration with several partners.

These partners include the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development and the Public Works Ministry, as well as humanitarian organizations such as Dompet Dhuafa, Rumah Zakat, MER-C, Relief Box, the Dedikasi Foundation, and Global Peace Chain Indonesia.

“The construction of temporary housing has reached the finalization stage and is projected to be completed by the second week of March 2026,” Muhari said.

He expressed optimism that cross-sector collaboration would enable more residents displaced by landslides and floods in November 2025 to move into proper shelters before Eid al-Fitr.

In this regard, Muhari said the Indonesian military had mobilized personnel to assist in dismantling emergency tents previously used by evacuees, whose numbers continue to decline as more temporary housing units become available.

He noted that the dismantling process began on Sunday (March 8) at several evacuation sites across Aceh Tamiang District, including the complex of the district legislative council.

Muhari also highlighted conditions in Karang Baru Sub-district, where residents have moved into 129 of the 142 temporary housing units that have been built. Each unit is equipped with basic necessities such as beds, stoves, and electric fans.

He added that the government has also distributed staple food supplies to disaster survivors to meet their needs for the next 24 days while they await the completion of recovery efforts and prepare to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.
