Aceh Tamiang, Aceh (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian said the extension of the emergency response period in the flood-hit Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh, until February 3, 2026, is aimed at accelerating rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

Speaking in Aceh Tamiang on Friday, Karnavian said the extension provides flexibility in procuring urgently needed goods and services, including heavy equipment and tools to remove mud from affected areas.

He explained that during an emergency response period, procurement can be carried out through direct appointment to speed up the process, unlike normal procedures that require open tenders and take considerably longer.

“If the emergency response status is declared over, then procurement, for example for loaders or other government needs at the central, provincial, or district levels, must follow standard procurement procedures,” he said.

Karnavian emphasized that all procurement processes must remain accountable and transparent, and must not be abused for personal gain or corrupt practices.

He added that every acceleration policy remains under the supervision of internal government auditors and the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) to ensure compliance with regulations.

Through this mechanism, the government hopes rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Aceh Tamiang can proceed more quickly and effectively while upholding the principles of clean governance.

The Aceh Tamiang District Government has extended the flood emergency response period from January 20 to February 3 to ensure all mud is cleared from residential areas and to maximize emergency assistance for flood victims.

Aceh Tamiang is among the districts affected by floods and landslides that struck three provinces in Sumatra - Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra - in late November 2025.

According to a monitoring report from the Aceh Tamiang Integrated Command Post, as of January 22, 2026, floods and landslides had claimed 101 lives in the district and injured 18 others, with 12 sub-districts affected.

The report also said that 1,435 families, totaling 5,901 people, have been displaced.
