Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa reported that the government had disbursed Rp11 trillion (over US$650 million) in Eid al-Fitr allowances for state workers, out of the Rp55 trillion (US$3.2 billion) allocated.

He assured that the Ministry of Finance had prepared the budget for the religious allowances, popularly known as THR, rejecting claims that payment completion was hindered by the state's capacity.

"The budget is already prepared. Maybe some institutions have not submitted proposals to us, because there should be no issue if all (bureaucratic matters) have been addressed," he said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Purbaya reiterated the point, underlining that payments would be made upon receipt of proposals.

"It is not that we do not have the money. It is just that some institutions may not have reached out to us," the minister affirmed.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto officially announced a set of Eid al-Fitr bonuses for workers nationwide at a press conference in Jakarta on March 3, highlighting Rp55 trillion for civil servants, contract-based government employees, soldiers, police officers, and pensioners.

"This figure represents a 10 percent increase from last year’s Rp49 trillion (US$2.9 billion)," he said, noting that disbursements began on Feb. 26 and would be completed a week before Eid al-Fitr.

Hartarto detailed that Rp22.2 trillion had been prepared for 2.4 million central government employees, as well as military and police personnel; Rp20.2 trillion for 4.3 million local government workers; and Rp12.7 trillion for 3.8 million pensioners.

The bonuses, he said, comprise base salary plus family, food, positional, and performance allowances, in line with prevailing regulations governing state compensation.

For the private sector, the minister said companies must pay THR in full no later than one week before Eid, prohibiting installment payments. He estimated total private-sector holiday bonuses at Rp124 trillion (US$7.3 billion), citing 26.5 million workers registered with state insurer BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

Additionally, he announced the government’s order for online taxi companies to distribute Rp220 billion (around US$13 million) in Eid bonuses for 850 thousand drivers.

He underlined mandatory Eid payments for private employees and online taxi drivers as a means to safeguard people’s purchasing power.
