Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has established Integrated 2026 Eid Transportation Command Posts to monitor nationwide travel, strengthen operational oversight and ensure smooth public mobility during the annual homecoming and return periods.

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the command posts will function as a national coordination center to address transportation issues quickly during the peak holiday travel season.

“In line with directives from President Prabowo Subianto, the government is committed to ensuring transportation facilities and public services run smoothly during the homecoming period through close coordination among ministries, regional governments, state-owned enterprises, the private sector and other stakeholders,” the minister said on Friday.

The government expects the monitoring system to help manage the surge in travel that typically occurs during Eid al-Fitr, when millions of Indonesians return to their hometowns across the archipelago.

The Transportation Ministry has also prepared mobility management policies covering all transport modes to ensure the readiness of facilities and infrastructure.

These measures include restricting certain transportation services ahead of the peak travel period to reduce long queues and traffic congestion.

Authorities will also prepare reserve transport capacity to respond to sudden spikes in passenger demand.

Operational inspections, commonly known as ramp checks, are being conducted to ensure the safety and readiness of vehicles, ships and aircraft used during the holiday period.

If necessary, traffic engineering measures will also be implemented to maintain smooth traffic flows.

The ministry said such measures would be coordinated with the police, the military, regional governments and other relevant agencies.

Monitoring posts have been set up across 1,560 transportation nodes and networks nationwide. These include 264 sea transport nodes and 177 bus terminals.

The terminals consist of 115 type A terminals and 62 type B terminals, according to the ministry.

Authorities have also deployed monitoring teams at 248 ferry transport nodes and 472 railway nodes.

In the aviation sector, monitoring will take place at 257 air transport nodes across the country.
The monitoring system also covers road transportation networks, including 43 nodes located at six toll gates.

In addition, 44 monitoring networks have been established along major arterial roads frequently used during the holiday migration.

Officials said the nationwide monitoring effort is aimed at improving safety, reducing congestion and ensuring better coordination among transportation operators.

The Integrated 2026 Eid Transportation Command Post will operate from March 13 to March 30, 2026.
