Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) will implement multiple traffic engineering schemes, including local and national contraflow and one-way systems, to address the anticipated peak of Eid homecoming return flow on April 5-6, 2025.

"We must take strategic steps with all stakeholders related to traffic engineering governance," Korlantas head, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, noted in a statement on Thursday.

Suryonugroho stated that contraflow would initially be applied from KM 70 to KM 47 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road and will be extended to KM 36 based on traffic flow dynamics.

"We will implement contraflow from KM 70 to KM 47, with the possibility of extension to KM 36, based on the number of vehicles," Suryonugroho explained.

His side will also implement the first stage of the local one-way scheme from KM 188 Palimanan to KM 70 Cikatama. If the number of vehicles is still considered high, the second stage of the contraflow scheme will also be applied from KM 246 to KM 188.

"On Thursday, we are practising a local one-way (scheme) from KM188 Palimanan to KM 70 Cikatama. If there is a surge of vehicles heading to Jakarta on the next day, we will also implement contraflow from KM 246 to KM 188," he elaborated.

Suryonugroho indicated that the local one-way system might extend until April 5, while the national one-way scheme will commence on April 6.

"On April 6, the Police chief and the transportation minister will officially start the national one-way system to Jakarta," he stated.

Suryonugroho also reminded travelers to plan their trips carefully as a precautionary measure.

"We appeal to travelers during the return flow to prepare their trip optimally, maintain their health, and ensure vehicle readiness for a safe return flow," he remarked.

The Eid homecoming return flow is expected to peak on D+5, or April 6, 2025, with an estimated 31.49 million travelers on that day.

A survey conducted in collaboration with Litbang Kompas revealed that 146.48 million people, equivalent to 52 percent of Indonesia's population, are expected to travel during this year's Eid holiday period.
