The Jakarta provincial government expanded international partnerships with Shenzhen, Seoul, Tokyo, and Kyoto during a series of diplomatic visits from April 22–28, focusing on transport, health, green innovation, and investment cooperation.
The initiative is led by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, who is strengthening city-to-city diplomacy with major Asian urban centers to position Indonesia’s capital as a global, sustainable, and livable metropolis.
“Jakarta is a living laboratory of urban transformation in Southeast Asia. The challenges of climate, flooding, congestion, and air pollution are not obstacles, but drivers of innovation,” Pramono said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In Shenzhen, the agenda includes bilateral meetings with the city’s executive mayor, discussions with Shenzhen Metro, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between MRT Jakarta and Shenzhen Metro.
The governor will also attend the JIEP Business Matching Forum 2026 and a roundtable with the Shenzhen Qianhai AI Industry Association, alongside visits to innovation hubs including the Qianhai Exhibition Hall.
In Seoul, Jakarta is set to sign a cooperation agreement with Jeju and conduct benchmarking visits to Boramae Medical Center and Healing Breeze Clinic to support improvements in Jakarta’s healthcare system, including Sumber Waras Hospital.
In Japan, Pramono will meet the Governor of Tokyo to deepen cooperation on green innovation, youth diplomacy, and urban resilience, and speak at the G-NETS Leaders Summit 2026 on sustainability, climate resilience, and the future of global cities.
