Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The planned east-west MRT corridor linking Kembangan and Balaraja is expected to strengthen the regional economic ecosystem and reaffirm Jakarta’s role as a global city, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said on Thursday.

“This cooperation will provide significant benefits for the government, developers, and MRT Jakarta. The project is expected to strengthen the regional economic ecosystem and reaffirm Jakarta’s role as a global city,” Anung said.

The MRT project marks a historic collaboration between the Jakarta and Banten provincial governments in developing cross-regional mass transportation infrastructure.

Earlier, Paramount Land President Director M. Nawawi said the Kembangan-Balaraja MRT would help ease congestion, improve quality of life, and serve as a model for sustainable transportation development in Indonesia.

He said the National Strategic Project would be directly connected to Paramount Gading Serpong and Paramount Petals, adding significant value to areas along the Kembangan-Balaraja corridor, particularly in Tangerang District.

Three main studies are being conducted, covering institutional, financial, and technical aspects, including route alignment and supporting infrastructure.

The MRT line is planned to span around 30 kilometers with 14 stations and one elevated depot in Balaraja.

“This collaboration reflects our commitment to efficient, comfortable, and sustainable mass transportation while encouraging equitable regional growth,” Nawawi said.

Previously, PT MRT Jakarta signed a memorandum of understanding with housing developers at Jakarta City Hall, attended by Governor Anung, Banten Governor Andra Soni, and MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat.

Tuhiyat said the cooperation aims to accelerate MRT interconnectivity with other public transportation modes.

“For MRT Jakarta, this fulfills our mandate to build, operate, and develop a safe, reliable, and sustainable urban railway,” he said.

Banten Governor Andra Soni reaffirmed his support for accelerating development around MRT stations in the Greater Tangerang area, saying integrated mass transportation is key to enhancing regional competitiveness and public welfare.
