In a statement on X that ANTARA quoted here Friday, UNIFIL said Private First Class Rico Pramudia, 31, died after nearly a month of treatment at a Beirut hospital for critical wounds sustained in the incident.
“UNIFIL mourns the passing of Praka Rico Pramudia, who was seriously injured by a projectile explosion at his base in Adchit Al Qusayr on the night of March 29,” the mission said.
The UN force expressed deep condolences to Rico’s family and fellow soldiers serving in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon’s volatile southern region.
UNIFIL also extended sympathies to the government and people of Indonesia, particularly the Indonesian Army, to which Rico belonged.
Following the latest fatality among its personnel, UNIFIL urged all parties to uphold their obligations under international law, including ensuring the safety and security of UN staff and property.
“Deliberate attacks against peacekeepers are a grave violation of international humanitarian law and U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, and may constitute war crimes,” the statement said.
With Rico’s death, Indonesia has lost four soldiers serving with UNIFIL in southern Lebanon over the past month.
Among them was Private First Class Farizal Rhomadhon, who died in an artillery attack on March 29 in the same incident that initially left Rico wounded.
On March 30, two Indonesian soldiers, Captain Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ikhwan, were killed when the convoy they were escorting came under attack.
The attacks occurring between March 29-30 and April 3 also left seven Indonesian soldiers wounded, excluding Rico, who later succumbed to his injuries.
France has also lost two soldiers deployed with UNIFIL, killed during heightened tensions in southern Lebanon after their patrol was attacked on April 18.
