Kota Padang (ANTARA) - The West Sumatra Provincial Government is working to repair several roads for the 2027 Tour de Singkarak (TdS), an international cycling event, using World Bank funding.

"Information from the Tourism Ministry indicates that there is funding from the World Bank for road infrastructure improvements related to tourism destinations," said Lila Yanwar, Head of the West Sumatra Tourism Office, in Padang City on Tuesday.

She and representatives from the West Sumatra Public Works and Spatial Planning Office will travel to Jakarta to submit a request for World Bank funding.

"Later, we will submit a proposal for repairs to several roads that will serve as stages for the 2027 TdS," she said.

Yanwar stated that the provincial government, along with several districts and cities, and related offices, have held several meetings in preparation for the 2027 TdS. At least several regions are interested in hosting the international cycling event.

The areas include Padang City, Tanah Datar District, Padang Panjang City, Bukittinggi City, South Pesisir District, Dharmasraya District, South Solok District, and Agam District.

The 2027 TdS represents a rebranding effort after being suspended for several years.

The initiative has also received full approval and support from the Tourism Ministry to ensure the continued growth of the Minangkabau tourism sector.

Previously, Hariyanto, an official of the Tourism Ministry, during his working visit to Padang City, confirmed that the Tour de Singkarak will return to West Sumatra in 2027 to support the advancement of the tourism and sports sectors.

Regarding infrastructure readiness for the 2027 TdS, the Tourism Ministry confirmed that it will coordinate more closely with various parties involved, especially local governments.

This will cover aspects of attractions, amenities, and accessibility following the disaster at the end of 2025.
