Natuna District Head, Cen Sui Lan, in Natuna on Tuesday, stated that she and the Natuna District Attorney's Office conducted a direct inspection of the construction site in Pulau Tiga Sub-district.
"Construction progress has reached five percent. We hope that everything runs smoothly," she said.
Lampa Strait Port remains a collection port. The Natuna District Government has proposed upgrading it to an international port by 2025, and the Directorate General of Sea Transportation approved the proposal in mid-2025.
After approval, the Transportation Ministry prepared a plan to improve port facilities and infrastructure to optimize port services.
The port development is planned in three phases over three years. The first phase will begin in 2026 with a budget of over Rp20 billion (US$1.1 million).
One of the port's functions will be to serve as a gateway for the export and import of superior commodities in the border region.
"This is a central government project, aimed at helping Natuna have an international port," she said.
Meanwhile, the Rehabilitation Project Site Manager, Inno, stated that the project is targeted for completion in September 2026.
He explained that the Rp24 billion budget will be used for the construction of the main gate, terminal, canteen, parking area, port fence, stacking yard, and several other facilities.
Although still under construction, loading and unloading of goods and boarding of passengers will continue as the port remains operational.
"When passengers board and disembark, we temporarily halt work. Once completed, work will resume," he said.
