Head of the Transportation Agency in Natuna, Allazi, on Wednesday said that the approval was conveyed in an official letter from the ministry’s Directorate General of Sea Transportation in early July 2025, following applications from the Regency and the provincial government.
“Selat Lampa Port has been approved as an export and import location by the ministry through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation,” he said.
Allazi informed that Selat Lampa Port was found to be a suitable export-import location because it can accommodate vessels of up to 10 thousand gross tonnage (GT). It is also an open feeder port.
“Currently, the largest ship, the KM Bukit Raya, with a capacity of 6 thousand GT, is docked there,” he said.
Despite the approval, Selat Lampa Port cannot start export-import activities immediately since it still needs to meet several supporting requirements.
“Today, it is not officially operating as an export-import port,” he said.
Allazi added that the central government has prepared a Detailed Engineering Design (DED) for the port’s supporting facilities and infrastructure, such as terminals and buildings for relevant agencies.
Export-import ports require supporting institutions such as the Customs, Immigration, Quarantine, as well as the Port Authority (CIQP).
“We have coordinated with Tarempa Port Operations Unit Office (KUPP) regarding port operations and have received a response,” he said.
