Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has reaffirmed that there is no place in Indonesia for online gambling networks or transnational cybercrime originating from overseas.

“Polri is committed to firm law enforcement so that Indonesia is not used as a base for online gambling operators or international scam activities,” Head of the National Police Public Information Bureau, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, remarked in a statement here on Sunday.

This commitment has been demonstrated through efforts to eradicate online gambling practices, including those involving foreign nationals, following the exposure of an international online gambling network in West Jakarta, where a total of 321 foreign nationals were arrested.

Andiko said the eradication of online gambling is a serious concern due to its highly detrimental impact on society and the national economy.

“The eradication of online gambling is a common concern because it is very damaging to society, both from social and economic perspectives,” he said.

He emphasized that the exposure of the online gambling case involving hundreds of foreign nationals is part of the implementation of President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita program in handling digital and transnational crime.

“This is part of the continuous and simultaneous law enforcement efforts carried out by the National Police together with relevant stakeholders,” Andiko said.

He added that further investigations of the case are still ongoing in coordination with related agencies, including immigration authorities and other institutions.

Previously, the Polri's Criminal Investigation Agency announced that it seized Rp1.9 billion or around US$109 thousand in cash from the exposure of an international online gambling crime case in the Hayam Wuruk office area, Jakarta.

Director of General Crimes at the agency, Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra, said that in addition to rupiah, police also confiscated foreign currencies amounting to 53.82 million Vietnamese dong and US$10,210 in the case.
