Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) reported that 142,147 out of 242,169 tickets available for the Ascension Day long holiday period from May 13–18, 2026, have been sold.

“To date, we are still witnessing strong public enthusiasm for railway services,” KAI Operational Region 1 Jakarta spokesperson Franoto Wibowo said on Friday.

He noted that KAI is operating 68 regular long-distance train trips daily, complemented by nine additional services - eight departing from Gambir Station and one from Pasar Senen Station - to anticipate increased public mobility during the holiday period.

On Friday alone, passenger departures from Operational Region (Daop) 1 Jakarta reached 22,548, compared to 20,547 arrivals, he added.

Wibowo stated that Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta recorded the highest departure volume, with 8,936 passengers, followed by Gambir Station with 7,498 passengers, as well as Bekasi and Jatinegara stations.

He also noted that Pasar Senen Station recorded the highest arrival volume at 8,056 passengers, followed by Gambir Station with 5,882 and Bekasi Station with 2,597 passengers, while data for Jatinegara Station was not specified.

Regarding popular destinations, Wibowo said that most travelers are heading to Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Bandung, and Jember.

He added that the long holiday has also boosted demand for local train services. KAI sold 19,030 out of 22,080 available tickets for the Pangrango service, while the Siliwangi train recorded 4,986 ticket sales out of 11,448 seats during the May 13–18 period.

KAI Jakarta encouraged travelers to plan their trips carefully and utilize face-recognition technology at boarding gates to avoid queues.

“We would also like to remind travelers to pay attention to schedules, keep their belongings secure, and comply with all regulations to ensure safety and comfort for everyone,” Wibowo concluded.
