I am not against free market mechanisms
Jakarta (ANTARA) -
President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the Indonesian government is not opposed to free market mechanisms, while still maintaining an active role in protecting public welfare in accordance with the principles of Pancasila and the family-based state system.

While inaugurating the Marsinah Museum and Shelter in Nganjuk District, East Java, on Saturday, Prabowo urged entrepreneurs to support the welfare of the Indonesian people through a spirit of togetherness.

"Once again, I am not against free market mechanisms. However, I understand that free markets can be misused," he remarked during the event.

According to him, free market mechanisms can marginalized poor communities who must compete with large investors, creating a gap in capabilities between the two parties.

Therefore, the government is intervening to ensure the welfare of vulnerable communities through affirmative action policies to protect the people.

On the same occasion, the head of state also touched on the death of labor activist Marsinah. He believes entrepreneurs, who are solely focused on maximizing profits, are inconsistent with the founding principles of Indonesia.

Marsinah was reported missing and found dead on May 8, 1993, several days after representing hundreds of striking workers demanding the implementation of the minimum wage and union autonomy at the company where she worked.

"Therefore, even now that I am leading, I want to uphold our Constitution. I want to uphold Pancasila, that Indonesia is a family nation. I invite entrepreneurs to join us in becoming Indonesia Incorporated," Prabowo conveyed.

He explained the concept of Indonesia Incorporated is a family nation that guarantees all Indonesians' right to prosper and enjoy the nation's wealth.

"All Indonesians have the right to this wealth and all leaders at every level are responsible for fighting for this with all the strength and courage they possess," he pointed out.
