Speaking in Nganjuk, East Java, Prabowo reminded members of the Indonesian National Police and Armed Forces that they were funded by taxpayers and must serve the public interest.
“TNI commander, police chief, I do not want to hear of officers failing to uphold law, justice and truth. No backing of any kind is allowed,” Prabowo said during the inauguration of the Marsinah Museum and a shelter house.
Prabowo specifically called on both institutions to intensify reforms and eliminate misconduct and corruption within their ranks.
“All personnel must improve and clean themselves. Do not become those who back smuggling, drugs, gambling or any illegal activities,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the public, Prabowo said the police and military must act as “people’s police” and “people’s soldiers.”
He added that reform initiatives were continuing under the leadership of both institutions, including programs aimed at improving public welfare.
As an example, Prabowo highlighted the role of police and military personnel in supporting Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency efforts through involvement in agricultural activities.
“This is why I say the TNI is a people’s military, and our police must become a people’s police. That is what the current police leadership is working toward,” he said.
