The head of MUI's Brotherhood (Ukhuwah) Division, Muhammad Zaitun Rasmin, conveyed this in a press conference following a consolidation meeting with Islamic organizations and philanthropic institutions at the MUI Headquarters in Central Jakarta on Thursday.
"The MUI has submitted a request to President Prabowo Subianto and established a crisis center to accommodate input, for example from the victims' families. The MUI has accepted this input to strengthen its position and provide full support," Rasmin remarked.
He will also coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and open the possibility of meeting directly with President Prabowo Subianto if the release process is not realized soon.
"The MUI will request a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto if this issue remains unresolved and if the hostages are not released soon," he continued.
In this regard, Rasmin called on all Muslims to speak out in support of the release of these humanitarian activists.
Similarly, the Deputy Secretary General of MUI, Erick Yusuf, has also prepared official letters to national and international institutions to strengthen diplomatic and humanitarian advocacy efforts.
"We have also prepared official letters, not only to national leaders, but also to international ones, including relevant international institutions. We hope that we can work together," he said.
He addressed that the current priority is the release of humanitarian activists and ensuring that aid can reach Gaza.
Furthermore, MUI also invites Islamic organizations, philanthropic institutions, and various communities to jointly oversee this humanitarian movement.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that nine Indonesian citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian convoy to the Gaza Strip were kidnapped by Israeli forces who ambushed their ships.
Among the nine kidnapped Indonesians were three journalists from national media outlets on assignment, namely Bambang Noroyono and Thoudy Badai from Republika and Andre Prasetyo Nugroho from Tempo.
