In a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday, he emphasized that universities play a strategic role in strengthening Indonesia’s position amid global competition through the advancement of science and technology ecosystems.
“Transforming knowledge into impactful products is a long-term process. Universities must build strategic partnerships with industries to generate meaningful innovations. Countries that can sustain research through to industrial commercialization are the ones that will shape the future economy,” he said.
The minister noted that improving research quality is a vital foundation for accelerating Indonesia’s economic transformation toward becoming a developed nation.
To achieve this, he stressed the importance of strengthening synergy among universities, industries, the government, and communities to ensure that research outcomes are aligned with national development priorities.
Yuliarto also highlighted the need to maintain a balance between university autonomy and public accountability, including in academic quality, institutional governance, and the relevance of research to societal and industrial needs.
Echoing the minister’s remarks, Chairman of the Academic Senate Assembly of State Universities with Legal Entity Status Syafrizal said higher education institutions must enhance their contributions to society and industry through research, innovation, and community service that generate tangible benefits for national development.
“Higher education institutions must deliver tangible benefits to communities, industries, and the government for the prosperity of the Republic of Indonesia,” he stressed.
He also expressed hope that state universities would continue evaluating and strengthening their role in supporting the nation’s development.
