Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Human Rights said human rights compliance assessments for government agencies are aimed at improving inclusive public services and strengthening protection for vulnerable groups.

The ministry’s Director General of Human Rights Service and Compliance, Munafrizal Manan, said the policy seeks to ensure public services are based not only on administration but also on respect for human rights.

“The goal is not merely annual report figures, but better public services directly felt by communities, especially vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, women and children,” Manan said in a statement on Wednesday.

The assessment mechanism is expected to encourage agencies to provide inclusive public facilities, issue human rights-based regulations and prevent discriminatory practices in public services, he said.

The ministry has officially launched the human rights compliance assessment program for all government institutions.

The policy forms part of Indonesia’s Long-Term Development Plan toward Golden Indonesia 2045, which places human rights protection and enforcement among the pillars of national development.

The ministry said 407 government institutions have begun the compliance assessment process, including 17 ministries and agencies, 27 provincial administrations and 363 district or city governments.

The assessments include declarations of commitment, document reviews, field verification and recommendations for improvement or awards for agencies with strong compliance records.

The ministry said the policy was necessary due to persistent public complaints over alleged human rights violations involving state officials and local regulations considered discriminatory.

“The Ministry of Human Rights remains committed to assisting institutions through technical guidance and coordination to support the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision with a strong humanitarian foundation,” Manan said.
