Speaking in Kendari on Friday, Southeast Sulawesi Governor Andi Sumangerukka said Bombana and East Kolaka Districts would each receive six pumps.
"South Konawe District and Kendari City will each receive five units, while the remaining two will go to Kolaka District," he said.
Sumangerukka described the pump distribution as direct government assistance for communities facing high drought risks during the dry season.
"The assistance is expected to help governments in the five areas respond quickly to disrupted water supplies and address fire hotspots," the governor said.
The provincial government has also provided supporting logistics, including two family-sized tents and disaster supplies to West Muna District and a 5,000-liter water tanker to North Buton District.
The government has prepared nine additional water tankers for areas at high risk of water shortages and wildfires, including Kolaka, Konawe, South Konawe, Bombana, Central Buton, Baubau and Kendari.
He added that 10 other areas in the province face medium-level risks.
"We will prepare and distribute equipment to areas affected by drought. We also plan to allocate a budget for fire extinguishers this year to support fire-prone areas," Sumangerukka said.
The governor said government assistance was particularly important as Southeast Sulawesi is expected to face heightened drought risks during the dry-season peak, forecast for September through October 2026.
