Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A non-governmental organization concerned with police affairs has urged President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to have the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) take over the Gayus Tambunan case.

"The President should encourage the Corruption Eradication Commission to take over the Gayus case," the head of the presidium of the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW), Neta S. Pane,.said here Monday.

According to Neta, the Gayus case had spilled oever into the political domain and there was a tendency of it being used to dicredit or bring down certain people.

"If the case is neglected it will only yield arguments with no thorough settlement," Neta said.

If the KPK took over the Gayus case, the mastermind behind it would be revealed as Gayus dared not to fight against some institutions, Neta said.

KPK could gain access to information about the mastermind behind the Gayus case by investigating the cash flows in his case which involved Rp 28 billion currently controlled certain top brass police officers.

Therefore, the KPK should investigate Commissioner General Susno Duadji, Police Commissioner Arafat, officials of Prefession and Security of Police (Propam), Independent Team and Gayus Tambunan himself in addition to asking for the assistance of Gayus`s lawyer Adnan Buyung Naution, Neta said.

"If the mastermind of this case is not revealed, new cases that could negate the President`s efforts to eradicate judicial mafia could emerge from the Gayus case," Neta said.(*)
