Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - A fire ravaged six houses in Samarinda, capital of East Kalimantan province, on Tuesday night, causing hundreds of millions of rupiah in material losses.

No injuries or fatalities were reported in the blaze which broke out at 09.30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The source of the fire was believed to have originated from one of the houses and later spread to other buildings, Samarinda city police spokesman 2nd Insp Miseri said.

Police are investigating a number of eyewitnesses to establish the cause of the fire.

"We don`t know the exact cause of the fire as we are still waiting for the results of further investigation. None of the eyewitnesses questioned saw how the fire began to flare up. But they said they saw the fire coming from the kitchen of the house," he said.
