Pandeglang, Banten (ANTARA News) - A tectonic earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook the Ujung Kulon region in in Pandeglang, Banten province, on Wednesday.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake took place at 7.44 pm with its epicenter located at 7.10 degrees southern latitude and 105.15 degrees eastern longitude.

Located at a depth of about 20 km, the epicenter was about 50 km southwest of Merak, Cilegon district, Banten province. It is about 184 km southwest of Kalianda, Lampung province.

According to the BMKG, the earthquake has no potentials to create an earthquake.
Earlier in the day, another earthquake measuring 5.3 on Richter scale hit North Sulawesi at 8.45 a.m local time Wednesday.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) the epicenter of the earthquake lies 3.63 degrees Northern Latitude and 126.84 degrees Eastern Longitude at a depth of 24 km.

The epicenter of the quake is located 135 km Southeast of Melonguane, North Sulawesi; 152 km East of Tahuna Sea, North Sulawesi; 303 km Northeast of Bitung Sea, North Sulawesi; 322 km Northwest of Ternate Sea; and 2.475 Northeast of Jakarta.

The North Sulawesi quake also has no tsunami potential.
