"Gayus confessed he had thrown away his passport at a certain location in Jakarta," National Police Headquarters spokesman Senior Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar said here Thursday.
Gayus said he got rid of his passport after returning from Singapore, the last country he went to, Boy said.
"Gayus erased all the evidence - his passport and flight tickets," he added.
Meanwhile, police had declared Gayus a suspect after questioning him for 13 hours on Wednesday (Jan 12). They put 36 questions to him, Boy said.
Gayus was allegedly in Macau on September 22 to 24, Kuala Lumpur on September 30 and Singapore on October 2, 2010 with a false passport while he was officially supposed to be behind bars.
The police had established that the passport under the name of Sony Laksono was actually reserved for Margareta, a five year old girl. Gayus claimed he had obtained the passport from a broker.
