Singkawang, West Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of houses in Singkawang had been submerged following continuous and heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"About five hundred houses had been seriously inundated. We estimated 70 percent of all the houses there," Bukit Batu village head Alimin said in Singkawang on Thursday.

Many clinics and elementary schools were also inundated and their students had been asked to stay home.

The flood waters had also submerged 80 hectares of farmland in Bukit Batu.

Bukit Bukit has a population of 5,015, while the flood waters reached a height of 60 centimeters.

The floods have also inundated many roads including Jalan Murni, Jalan Pramuka, Jalan Trisula, and Padat Karya. (*)
