The houses were located at Boyong, Dadapan and Mangli villages.
Besides damaging the houses, the whirlwind also ruined a seedling nursery in Mangli village which was a government-funded project worth of Ro20 million.
Darmanto (58), a local citizen, said the wind blew strongly from southern direction and within 30 seconds it ravaged housetops.
Juwandi, the Mangli headman, said the housetops were broken and roofs ripped off by the whirlwind.
"There was a house whose foundation collapsed and another house whose top was blown off` he said.
The local people with the help from the military cleaned up the debris from the roofs.
Juwandi said the district`s administration officers were collecting data on the damage caused by the wind. Whirlwinds often hit the areas around Mt Sumbing , he added. (*)
