Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - South Kalimantan province is gearing up to achieve beef self-sufficiency in 2014, an official said.

"South Kalimantan has so far been able to meet the need for meat on its own. However, the meat consists of beef, goat meat and chicken meat," Head of the South Kalimantan Husbandry Office Maskamian Andjam said here on Sunday.

In addition, South Kalimantan is currently also supplying meat to neighboring Central Kalimantan and East Kalimantan provinces, he said.

As a matter of fact, Central Kalimantan has so far relied on the supply of beef cattle from South Kalimantan for lower prices, he said.

"We are able to supply beef cattle to other provinces because our beef cattle production exceeds our needs which reach 36 thousand heads per year," he said.

He said South Kalimantan is ready to support the government`s program to meet beef consumption in each areas in the province.(*)
