In the short-term we will directly check for weaknesses, areas vulnarable to leakages of state income. We will patch them up first
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Newly-appointed director general of taxes Fuad Rahmany said he would strive to make state revenue from taxes to surpass the target set at Rp708 trillion in the the 2011 State Budget.

Therefore, he called on tax officials in the frontline to work hard and if possible to surpass the target. "So their target must be higher that that set in the national budget" he said after receiving the new post. To achieve the goal, they must focus, he added.

He said "Find the weaknesses, if there are any, in the system, procedures or process. And if we find them we have to correct them. And I believe all officials including directors, regional chiefs, office heads and others are ready for it. Let us improve the system."

Fuad said he would immediately make comprehensive improvements to stop all possible financial leakages, and consolidate as well as coordinate quickly.

"I am not a new man in the ministry of finance. So we already know each other. We will cooperate with a strong commitment. We will carry out the mandate. In the short-term we will directly check for weaknesses, areas vulnarable to leakages of state income. We will patch them up first," he said.

He said the Gayus Tambunan corruption case must never happen again, adding that the reform process in the ministry was still continuing.

Fuad was the chief of the Financial Institutions and Capital Market Supervisory Board (Bapepam-LK) before being installed as the director general of taxation to replace Mochamad Tjiptardjo.(*)
