London (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian Embassy in Tunisia has evacuated 32 Indonesian migrant workers from several residences of Tunisian government officials following social unrest and the transfer of power in that country.

"The 32 Indonesia migrant workers were sent back to the country in the company of Indonesian officials from the Indonesian foreign ministry," Third Secretary of the Indonesian Embassy in Tunisia Sugiri Suparwan said here on Thursday.

Herry Purnomo, an Indonesian migrant worker from Purwokerto, Central Java who represented his migrant worker colleagues, expressed deep thanks to the Indonesian ambassador and other embassy officials in Tunisia.

He appreciated all efforts from all sides to safeguard Indonesian migrant workers when armed conflict broke out in that country.

Harry said that the Indonesian embassy officials even risked their lives to safeguard Indonesian citizens.

The foreign ministry has sent two officials from the directorate general for Indonesian protection affairs, namely Adi Dzulfaut and Nurhasanah Arumsari Sihombing to pick up the Indonesian migrant workers there.

Unrest broke out after Tunisian President Zine Al Abididn Ben Ali, was toppled and left the country on Friday (Jan 14) to seek refuge in Saudi Arabia after public protests against their government.
