Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA News) - National Democrat (Nasdem) Movement chief Surya Paloh said the organization he was leading would not become a political party.

"I need to emphasize that the National Democrat Movement will remain a non-profit organization and will not become a political party," Surya said to ANTARA here Thursday.

He said the movement had already received much support from political figures, district and municipality heads, scientists, religious and community leaders across the country.

"Popular support for this organization is increasing and accumulating, and we are committed to remaining a mass organization that is cultivating the Indonesian people`s confidence," he said at a ceremony marking the installation of the executive committee of the movement`s Ambon branch.

The movement was established due to people`s concern and crisis of confidence towards the national leadership, he said.

The National Democrat Movement also has role to conduct restoration in many sectors while its vision is to strengthen the public for a better Indonesia, he said.

Indonesia was like the yellow light of a traffic light that might suddenly turn into red if there were no reformation in many sectors, he said.

This condition is very dangerous and the government should restore public`s trust and conduct reformation, he said.

According to him, the government should devise a better democratic system to guarantee people`s rights for a better welfare and to prevent distrustful situation.

Indonesian citizens would be aggrieved if suspicious situation are dwelling in the government, he said.

Surya hoped people of Indonesia to unite to solve problems and to conduct restoration in many sectors. (*)
