Cairo (ANTARA News/AFP) - Protesters fired two rocket propelled grenades at a police station in the northern Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid on Thursday, but missed and hit a nearby medical centre, hours after police shot dead a protester, security officials said.

One of the RPGs missed buildings and landed in an empty space, officials said. There were no immediate reports of casualties from the medical centre.

An AFP correspondent reported protesters also fired an RPG at a police station three kilometres (1.86 miles) from the town, setting it on fire. The checkpoint was evacuated earlier in the day.

The protesters were Bedouin, some of whom are heavily armed and complain of government discrimination.

Unrest in Sinai takes place occasionally and picked up on Tuesday to coincide with nationwide anti-government protests. (*)
