"The political crisis in Egypt has no impact on our tourism business," spokesman of Yogyakarta`s chapter of Asita, Edwin Ismedi Himna, said here on Tuesday.
He said Egypt has so far not been a potential market of and contribution to Indonesia`s tourism.
According to Edwin, not many tour and travel agencies in Indonesia worked in the Egyptian market.
"Not many of tour operators offer tourism packages in Egypt," Edwin said, adding that if any, it was combined with religious tourism because Egypt was close to the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
Therefore he said the political crisis in Egypt did not affect tourism business in Indonesia.
Edwin said that even in Yogyakarta, the number of Egyptian tourists visiting the cultural city was only a few, and even according to statistics they were mixed with tourists from African and Middle Eastern countries.
"Thus the political unrest in Egypt has no significant impact on our tourism, especially in Yogyakarta," he said, adding that so far he has been working more in regional tourist market in Malaysian and Singapore.(*)
