Cairo (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul- Gheit warned on Thursday that a military intervention might take place to protect national security and end the massive protests that swept over Egypt.

Ahmed Abul-Gheit said in a statement to Al Arabiya news channel that the Egyptian president will never step down like Tunisian president. "This won`t happen," he said, adding that the Egyptian people will not accept that their leader leave in such a way.

The foreign minister`s remarks are the second from the government on a military takeover, after Vice President Omar Suleiman`s speech on Tuesday.

Suleiman said that the situation cannot stay any longer, warning dialogue is the best way to achieve stability in the country otherwise an "undesirable coup will be the alternative but we try to avoid this option." (*)
