Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian government believes that Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak resignation decision will be the start of a peaceful transition to inclusive democracy that include all elements of the Egyptians.

"The Indonesian government believes, as voted by the Egyptian people, this will initiate the transition process towards a peaceful and inclusive democracy that includes all elements of the Egyptians," said Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa in its written statement received by ANTARA, here on Saturday.

On behalf of the Government of Indonesia, Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa who is scheduled to attend the UN Security Council meeting in New York on 13-14 February, 2011, also expressed his congratulations to the Egyptian people who have been able to overcome their challenges.

The Government of Indonesia, according to Foreign Minister, also believes that if the transition process can run well it will deliver Egypt to a democratic, more advanced, and more powerful country.

Marty also said that the Indonesian government believes that Egypt will continue to play an important role in the region, including in promoting Middle East peace process, and the rope of friendship which already exists between the two countries can continue to grow and will be increasingly enhanced.

"As a country that has undergone democratic transition, Indonesia is ready to share the experience of Indonesia in the process of reform, democratic transition and transformation of the political system," he said.

According to the Foreign Minister, Indonesia will always be on the side of Egypt in the Egyptian efforts towards democratic transition and in joint efforts to realize lasting peace in the Middle East.

Earlier this week, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono wrote to the Egyptian government in order to share experiences related to the political crisis that is happening in the country

The president said the letter had been taken by the President`s special envoy and former foreign minister and former Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt, Hassan Wirajuda.

Head of State wished the message that he wrote in the letter can be up to the government of Egypt to be used as comparison material.

While monitoring the sovereignty of Egypt as a sovereign state and nation, President Yudhoyono hopes that the Egyptian government will overcome its domestic problems appropriately and wisely to avoid acts of unnecessary violence and casualties.

Egypt was the first country to recognize the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia after the proclamation of independence on August 17, 1945. (*)
