Pekanbaru, Riau (ANTARA News) - Another Lion Air plane slid off the runway while landing at Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport on Tuesday evening.

The ill-fated plane which came in from Medan, North Sumatra, lay across at the end of the runway`s overrun area with three of its wheels off the runway, an Antara journalist observed.

Nobody was injured in the accident which occurred at 05.45 p.m.

According to the result of a preliminary investigation, the plane with flight number JT 0295 had the accident because of bad weather.

The accident forced the management of the airport to close the airport until the plane was removed from the runway.

At least four flights were postponed because of the accident.

"Until now it is still unclear how long the flight will be postponed," would-be passenger Fery said.

On Monday, a Lion Air plane which came in from Jakarta also skidded off the runway while landing at the airport.

The airport`s duty manager, Ibnu Hasan, said on Tuesday, none of the 212 passengers was injured in Monday`s accident, but one of them, a middle-aged woman, fainted during the evacuation.

A team of the National Committee on Transportation Safety (KNKT) was expected to arrive in Pekanbaru on Tuesday to investigate the accident involving the Lion Air plane which skidded at the airport the day before.(*)
