Patrialis said the President had ordered the ministers concerned to approach certain groups to make them not to conduct violence.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono ordered some of his ministers to talk with Ahmadiyah followers with regard to finding a solution on the question of the sect`s existence.

"The agreement is (he) has ordered some of the ministers concerned to find the solution. Perhaps we will sit with religious leaders, Ahmadiyah leaders and human rights advocates (to discuss the issue)," minister of justice and human rights Patrialis Akbar said here on Thursday after attending a meeting at the presidential palace.

Patrialis said religious affairs minister Suryadharma Ali and home affairs minister Gamawan Fauzi would probably hold the dialog soon.

He said one of the government`s aims was assuring the upholding of the joint ministerial decree, which firmly bans the Ahmadiyah sect to propagate its teachings for fear of damaging other religious teachings.

"If for example our brothers in Ahmadiyah would understand and not spreading (its teachings) to other Moslems, it is finished," he said.

The meeting led by President Yudhoyono also discussed violent incidents that have often happened in the country lately.

Patrialis said the President had ordered the ministers concerned to approach certain groups to make them not to conduct violence.

He said the President did not mention names of certain organizations nor the threat about the toppling of his government.

Patrialis said the threat was not allowed in the presidential system of government which gives a guarantee to the elected president to govern until the end of his term in line with the law.

The meeting on Ahmadiyah and violence problems was also attended by vice president Boediono, coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs Djoko Suyanto, attorney general Basrief Arief, national police chief General Timur Pradopo, defense forces commander Admiral Agus Suhartono and chief of the National Intelligence Agency, Sutanto.(*)
