Sidoarjo, E Java (ANTARA News) - The Juanda Customs and Excise Directorate General managed to foil an attempted smuggling of 400 grams of methyl amphetamine (shabu) from a Chinese at Juanda International Airport.

Head of the Juanda customs and excise office Buhari Sirait said here Friday that the drug had been smuggled by the Chinese national at the airport by hiding it in the soles of his shoes.

"The suspect at that time came to Juanda airport by Cathay Pacific (CX 781) on the Hong Kong - Surabaya route," he said.

He said that the contraband was worth Rp400 million.

The perpetrator if proven guilty may face a maximum jail sentence of 10 years plus a fine of Rp1 billion.

He has been handed over to the narcotic directorate of the East Java police for further processing.(*)
