"We are still investigating the incident. Until now 25 people have been named suspects. The number has not increased," chief of the Central Java police command, Inspector General Edward Aritonang, said here on Saturday.
He said the number of suspects may still increase as a lot witnesses are still being questioned.
He said the police are still questioning 45 witnesses in connection with the riot.
"We must have evidence and witnesses before we can declare new suspects," he said.
Regarding situation in Temanggung he said until now it has become more conducive although two companies of police officers still remained stationed in certain places there.
"Their withdrawal will be done if the situation has really been secure," he said.
He said he continued seeking efforts to make security conditions in Temanggung like before the riot.
He said one of the efforts was holding a meeting with religious leaders including the chief of the Temanggung chapter of the Indonesia Council of Ulemas.
Two churches have been burned and another one vandalized following a riot that happened after the local court sentenced Antonius Richmond Bawengan to five years for blaspheming a religion which rioters considered too lenient. (*)
