Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said the cabinet meeting was not canceled but only postponed until a date to be decided later.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono suddenly canceled a meeting on people`s welfare scheduled for 2pm on Thursday and replaced it with a meeting with Timor Leste`s foreign minister.

Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said the cabinet meeting was not canceled but only postponed until a date to be decided later.

Presidential special staffer for political communication Daniel Sparingga meanwhile said President Yudhoyono`s priorities for Thursday had indeed been adjusted.

"The priorities for today have indeed been adjusted a little. Urgency and immediate needs are the reasons behind it," he said.

He said President Yudhoyono had indeed been busier of late as he had been conducting a marathon and intensive communication with political parties in the coalition.

Daniel and Julian however could not say if the President had again conducted communication with political parties that afternoon making the scheduled cabinet meeting to be postponed.

Security around the presidential palace was tighter with some security personnel standing at several locations outside the compound, ANTARA News learned.

Journalists trying to obtain information about activities in the palace were prohibited from entering the compound.

A security officer admitted he had been ordered to tell journalists to remain in the press room. "So, please understand us," the officer, Bambang Hendro, said to some journalists intending to enter the Wisma Negara building.

At around 5pm two black sedans left the building but there was no official statement about who were in the cars.

At around 3pm on Wednesday President Yudhoyono gathered politicians from his ruling Democrat Party at the palace but one of the politician, Marzuki Alie, said it was a mere consultative meeting to discuss a matter in the parliament.(*)
