Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had received a report on the explosion of a package bomb in Utan Kayu area, East Jakarta, that injured police officers on Tuesday evening.

"The president has received a report on the bomb explosion incident which injured the chief of East Jakarta Police for Detective Unit," the presidential spokesman said on Tuesday evening.

Julian said that the president continued to follow the developments of the incident. "The system has been and is working, police are doing their job," he added.

He also said that the coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs Djoko Suyanto or Police Chief General Timor Pradopo would make a statement on the matter.

At present police are conducting investigation in the location of the incident.

Spokesman of Jakarta Police Senior Commissioner Baharuddin Jafar said the explosion injured at least three persons. One of the victims is the head of East Jakarta police detective unit, Senior Commissioner Dodi Rachmawan who suffered an injury in his hand.

Dody Rachmawan, set off the bomb as he attempted to defuse it with his bare hands.

Earlier, a staff of the Radio News Agency 68 H in Jalan Utan Kayu received a package which was addressed to Ulil Abshar Abdalla, activist of the Liberal Islam Network (JIL) and a Democrat Party politician.

The package contained a thick book which has been implanted with explosives. The package exploded when police were trying to defuse it.(*)
