"I met with the Sultan to introduce myself as US deputy ambassador and to know him better as governor and the Sultan of Yogyakarta," he said.
During the meeting he said they discussed the history and existence of the Yogyakarta Sultanate as well as handling impact of the Mount Merapi eruption and matters relating to education in general.
The Sultan meanwhile told his guest that representatives from 75 universities in the US would visit Yogyakarta in April.
"I have proposed that in this case they would conduct cooperation not only with state Gajahmada University but also with other private universities in Yogyakarta," he said.
He said during the meeting Ted had asked a lot about the Yogyakarta palace which is located on an imaginary line of Mt Merapi-Tugu (Monument)-Keraton (Palace)-Panggung Krapyak-Laut Selatan (Indian Ocean).
"Apart from that I have also explained him the position of the Sultan, as the Sultan inherited three spirits from his predecessor Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX namely nationalism (Merah Putih, color of national flag), Pancasila (state ideology) and the 1945 Constitution," he said. (*)
