Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Several army generals and military leaders from members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) gathered for an informal breakfast meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here on Thursday.

"We are serving among others traditional `soto` chicken soup," presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said when met at the palace compound.

Julian said the palace had deliberately served daily menus made specially for the generals. "It is a bit special," he said.

He said the concept of breakfast meeting was the right choice to serve the military leaders from ASEAN to add spirits and freshness for them to follow the meeting.

Indonesian defense minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro earlier said that the meeting was informal and it would not discuss anything relating to armed operations.

"The meeting military commanders of ASEAN this morning was actually an informal meeting," he said before attending it.

He said the meeting reaffirmed Indonesia`s commitment to not establishing a military pact in the ASEAN region.

Purnomo said military cooperation should not always be for war but "could also be for purposes other than war." He referred among others to disaster mitigation, peace keeping, anti-terrorism and maritime security efforts as examples.

President Yudhoyono gave directives at the "ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIN)" attended by 50 invitees.

The eighth informal meeting that was held behind closed doors also heard speeches from Indonesian defense forces commander Admiral Agus Suhartono and General Songkitti Jaggabatara from the Royal Thai Armed Forces representing the ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces.
